Following the success of our first event, the Berthoud Historical Society is proud to present our second Historic Barn Tour, featuring three remarkable barns that reflect the region’s deep agricultural roots. For many years, Society leaders and members have recognized the importance of creating opportunities to experience these working landmarks firsthand. As housing and retail development continues to expand across the area, the chance to view and appreciate barns connected to Berthoud’s agricultural heritage becomes increasingly important. The barns we see today may not stand forever, making it all the more meaningful to visit them now—to admire their craftsmanship, understand their purpose, and hear the stories of the farm families whose lives were shaped by the land.

This year you, your family, and friends have an opportunity to tour 3 farmsteads in and around Berthoud.

These are driving tours. You will need to drive from one barn to the next in the order outlined in your barn tour booklet.

Morning Tour – Begins at 9 am Sharp

Afternoon Tour – Begins at 1 pm Sharp

There will be a presentation at each barn every hour.

To assure that each barn has a similar number of visitors, participants will be assigned their first barn to start with. Please arrive at your starting barn at least 5 minutes early so that the presentation of the barn and the farmstead/family history can begin at the top of the hour (9am – morning tour or 1pm – afternoon tour). Once you have explored the barn and learned about the family farm, you will return to your car and drive to the next barn on the list.

There will be a presentation at each barn every hour.

Docents will be sure to stop in time for folks to drive safely to and arrive at their next barn before the top of the hour. There will be signs and balloons to help you find the next barn as you get closer.

Once you decide which tour (AM or PM) you want to join, select it below and follow the directions for purchasing your ticket booklet and any additional reservations.

Please note:

  • You must agree to the Waiver of Liability and Indemnification provided by Larimer County to participate (see below).
  • One Barn Tour Booklet with barn descriptions and route map will be given for each purchase. For example, if a family of 4 is participating, it will receive one booklet and 4 bracelets to wear during the tour to show proof of purchase.

We ask participants to pick up their Barn Tour Booklet and bracelets in advance by stopping by the Little Thompson Valley Pioneer Museum (224 Mountain Ave, Berthoud) between 1:30 and 6:30pm any of the three days before the tour:

Wednesday, September 11

Thursday, September 12

Friday, September 13th.

At that time, participants will learn which is their first barn to start with and the order to follow to complete the tour.

Additional Information
  • The BHS recommends that participants wear sturdy, closed-toed shoes, long-sleeved shirts, and trousers/long skirts.
  • Because participants will be driving to and from each barn, the BHS strongly recommends the participants drive the route and direction highlighted on their ticket booklet.
  • Smoking/vaping is not allowed on any of the Barn Tour properties.
  • No dogs or pets are allowed on the tour.

Disclaimer

The Berthoud Historical Society (BHS) warns all participants that there are inherent risks to entering barns, walking around properties, and otherwise exploring a farmstead. The participant can expect to come into contact with or be exposed to:

  • Animal and bird droppings
  • Wildlife
  • Allergens
  • Dust and grime
  • Uneven surfaces
  • Dim lighting
  • Protruding and low-hanging objects
  • Many other obstacles that might be present in the barn or on the property

In order to attend the Barn Tour, participants must accept the Waiver of Liability and Indemnification provided by Larimer County before purchasing their reservation.
