A Berthoud Community Tradition

The iconic Williams Wayside Inn and its delicious fried chicken is an indelible part of Berthoud’s unique heritage. The restaurant that Stan Williams owned and operated from 1950 to 1978 had such a far-flung reputation that fried chicken lovers from across the Rocky Mountain region and nation took care to make Berthoud’s “Inn” a meal stop on their Sunday afternoon or vacation itineraries.

On Saturday, July 17, 2021, the Berthoud Historical Society will honor the Wayside Inn’s famous fried chicken legacy by recreating “The Traveler” chicken dinner for a Summertime Box Social event that will help raise funds to employ the BHS Museums Director.

While the individual ticket price of $40 per person ($75 for two) exceeds the original 1968 cost of $3.95 for the “The Traveler” chicken dinner, this event is a prime opportunity for members and friends of the Berthoud Historical Society to support the organization that helps Berthoud maintain its small town flavor.

The heart of the Summertime Box Social will be a faithful re-creation of the Wayside Inn’s famous “Traveler” chicken dinner” which is a boxed “to-go” meal ready for curbside pick-up at the McCarty-Fickel Home museum at the southwest corner of 7th Street and Turner Avenue (645 7th Street) from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on July 17, 2021
