Berthoud Farm and Field Berthoud came of age as an agricultural community. First it was wheat that was grown for flour, then alfalfa for sheep fattening, and finally beets for the Great Western Sugar Company. Without a doubt the economy of Berthoud and the surrounding Little Thompson Valley was always driven by crops.
The Berthoud Farm and Field calendar features a wide variety of farm-oriented photographs from the collections of the Berthoud Historical Society. The calendar also shares a number of vintage farm advertisements that appeared on the pages of long out-of-print local newspapers.
Both are bound to delight and fascinate our modern sensibilities.
The Society offers thanks to friends and members that donated or loaned photographs for use in this calendar. We also express our most sincere appreciation to the individuals and local Berthoud businesses that sponsored calendar pages to help make this annual calendar project possible.
With great pleasure the Berthoud Historical Society presents Berthoud Farm and Field. We hope that this calendar, in part, fulfills our mission to discover, preserve and interpret the history of Berthoud, the Little Thompson Valley, Colorado, and the surrounding region.
