    The Bunyan Observatory at the Little Thompson Valley Pioneer Museum is a working replica of the courtyard astronomical observatory that banker John Bunyan built at his Berthoud home in 1933.

    Outfitted with Bunyan’s original Brashear telescope (6 inches in diameter and nearly 7 feet long) the observatory is an exhibit during regular museum hours and a site for public stargazing the first Friday night of each month beginning at dusk.

    Get ready for another season of FREE live music in the heart of Berthoud! Join us at the Little Thompson Valley Pioneer Museum Pioneer Courtyard for three incredible concerts featuring talented local bands. Relax under the summer sky, and enjoy the sounds of Colorado’s best musicians!

    Summer Concert Lineup:
    June 11 – Strangebyrds (strangebyrds.com) – Soulful, folk-rock duo with rich harmonies!
    June 25 – Sugar Britches (sugarbritchesmusic.com) – Toe-tapping honky-tonk and witty Americana!

    July 16 – Once Upon a Tune (Find them on Facebook) – A magical blend of Celtic and folk melodies!

    Location: Little Thompson Valley Pioneer Museum Pioneer Courtyard - 224 Mountain Avenue, Berthoud - Gates open at 5:30, music begins at 6:30

    The Berthoud Historical Society's next Speaker Series begins on September 9th with a powerful evening of learning and reflection as we welcome Right Relationship Boulder for a presentation on:
    “Boulder’s Fort Chambers: A Call to Reckon with our History and Build Right Relationships with Indigenous Peoples Today”

    7:00 – 9:00 PM
    Berthoud Recreation Center Community Room

    This important program explores Fort Chambers, one of the staging grounds for the 1864 Sand Creek Massacre, where 230 Cheyenne and Arapaho people were killed. Presenters will share the story of what happened there, its lasting consequences, and how reflection on this history can guide us toward building respectful and positive relationships with Indigenous peoples today.
    Presented by Right Relationship Boulder:
    – Jerilyn DeCoteau (Turtle Mountain Chippewa)
    – Paula Palmer
    – Brigid Mark

    The evening will include a 30-minute slide presentation, followed by Q&A and open discussion.
    This is a free community event — we encourage all to attend, listen, and engage.
